Used Air Compressors, Types of Compressors |
|
In the past, technicians or mechanic shops would use a central power source to fuel all of their tools. However, with air compressors, it's now possible to have a portable source of power. These can be quite affordable, particularly if you are willing to look at used air compressors to power your home or business tools. However, it's helpful to first take a look at all the various types of air compressors out there, so that you can be sure that you are investing in the most effective power source for your needs.
Positive displacement compressors are some of the most popular versions on the market, used frequently by mechanics, woodworkers, homeowners, and contractors alike. These work by increasing air pressure through reducing the size of the space containing the air. When you buy these used air compressors, they operate using a reciprocating piston. This has a crankshaft, a piston, a valve head, and a cylinder. Both a gas engine and electric motor can serve as the source of power for the crankshaft. Smaller models will only have a pump and motor, while larger versions will also have an air tank to contain the compressed air. Another distinction that can be made between different types of used air compressors is those that have either one or two cylinders. These have pressure switches which can stop the motor if internal pressure reaches a certain limit that is set in advance. Both one and two cylinder air compressors operate in much the same way, except that the two cylinder versions will pump air twice as fast, so they are more suitable for larger jobs or ones where you will need a greater source of compressed air overall. These are just a few of the main differences between the various types of used air compressors that you might see on the market. It's possible to rent air compressors in some cases, if you are only planning on using it once for a specific project. Otherwise, it's worth expending a bit of time and effort to learn more about how different models may vary. When you are purchasing any used equipment of this nature, you should also ask the vendor how old the compressor is and what types of projects it has been used for in the past, to get some indication if it will be appropriate for your home or professional mechanical needs. |
